The home energy meter is an energy measurement device designed for the entire household. It can wirelessly transmit immediate wattage and kilowatt-hour (kWh) usage data to central Z-Wave control point gateways, and can be easily and safely installed by licensed professionals. The meter utilizes current transformer clamps that affix around the AC mains to detect energy consumption for the entire house. Powered by AC electricity, the home energy meter is capable of taking electrical readings at intervals of up to one second.

The main body of the device is rated to the international protection code IP43, making it weatherized for outdoor conditions and able to operate in a variety of weather environments. This design feature allows for improved radio range by positioning the antenna outside of most metallic current breaker boxes. The IP43 rating ensures the meter can withstand most weather conditions when installed outdoors.

In real-time, the home energy meter reports wattage, kWh, and voltage measurements. The device is optimized for an antenna range of 80 feet or more. It is Z-Wave certified, with the certification number zc08-12090011.
